What 13.52 means for your PS4
Sony identifies security corrections in the latest retained entry. It does not name a vulnerability or claim faster games. That is enough to describe the change as a security update; it is not evidence for a headline about a particular exploit or performance boost. F03
Update without choosing a reset
Open Settings → System Software Update. If the download is stuck, Sony directs you to Notifications, the update file and OPTIONS → Delete, then to start the download again from Settings. This removes the failed download entry; it is not the instruction to initialize your console. F04
For USB recovery, use a FAT32 or exFAT drive and the official update file at PS4/UPDATE/PS4UPDATE.PUP. From Safe Mode, choose Update System Software → Update from USB Storage Device. Check uppercase folder names and the actual filename when the file is not recognized. F04
Reinstallation is different
Initialize PS4 (Reinstall System Software) deletes console data. Sony supplies a separate reinstallation download even though the saved filename is the same. Do not choose it merely because an ordinary update failed. Review Sony’s full instructions and your backups before any destructive step. F04
Why older updates still matter
Version 4.50 introduced external USB storage and PS4 Pro’s Boost Mode. The announcement specifies compatible USB 3.0-or-later drives from 250GB to 8TB and warns that Boost Mode does not work well with every title. An owner returning to a Pro can use that distinction without expecting the same option on a base PS4. F13
Version 5.00 reorganized family management and expanded broadcasting. Version 8.00 connected Party and Messages groups, changed parental controls and supported authenticator apps for two-step verification. These are useful landmarks when an old tutorial looks unlike your menus—not instructions to install an old version. F14 · F15
Version 5.50 added Play Time Management, USB-image wallpapers and Library organization tools. Its supersampling option was for PS4 Pro, with results varying by game—not an option missing from your base PS4. Sony's European launch article dates this rollout to March 8, 2018. H417
If the problem is still there
Record the exact error, whether the failure happens during download or installation, and the file type used. Keep the system powered throughout installation. Use Sony’s linked troubleshooting route for repeated failures; we do not have a hardware-tested fix for every error code. F04

How to interpret this archive
Each version has a bookmarkable link. A catalog entry establishes what the preservation operator lists, not that Sony released it over the public network. Factory, disc-only and model-limited distribution may require more evidence. Separate recovery, beta, developer, hybrid and delta-patch catalogs were not imported. Package variants within the selected tables remain labeled.
Article dates and available-by bounds are not silently converted into firmware release dates. Available-by means the version was already available on that date in the named source region; it does not establish its first release day. Beta previews, withdrawn releases and delayed rollouts keep their qualifications. Old services may no longer work. We do not host, download, authenticate or recommend archived firmware packages, and this is not a downgrade guide.
What this record does—and does not—prove
Source check: . 95 version records; 95 with Sony notes or feature announcements; 0 with notes missing (including timing-only evidence). This is a manually reviewed reference, not a live device check or a download mirror. Historical fixes are not a list of unresolved problems in the latest software.
We have not tested these releases on hardware. A short maintenance note does not identify a particular crash, frame-rate gain or security vulnerability. No reported issue here should be read as “bug-free.” If your console reports a newer version, use Sony’s current instructions and treat this snapshot as due for review.
